ASCD is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that represents more than 170,000 educators from 135 countries and more than 60 affiliates and connected communities. ASCD members are professional educators from all levels and subject areas—superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members.
When founded in 1943, ASCD's focus was on curriculum and upervision issues. Today, the organization addresses all aspects of effective teaching, learning, and leadership. Its core set of values and beliefs support the whole child, holding that student success is dependent not only on academic knowledge, but als on physical and emotional health, engagement, and motivation.
Southern Nevada ASCD Connected Community, a Nevada nonprofit corporation, is an ASCD constituent group whose goal is to promote excellence and equity in education for the success of all learners in southern Nevada. Membership is open to all who are interested in the future of our schools and, especially, our children. We are dedicated to the improvement of teaching and learning by:
· Developing reflective practitioners who take responsibility for their own professional development.
· Advocating active membership in professional organizations.
· Providing networking opportunities among members of the educational community.
· Informing members of professional development opportunities, professional organizations, and available resources.
